So this was the post covid kahuna and Gina up for the contest as well as mike.

We got to the B lot at 730 and it was already full. Got just about the last two parking spaces left in the A lot.

To my surprise they set up all the way South- past taco bell – almost at rock garden/pandibar. I had never seen them set up a contest so far south but was glad they did as Pandibar was working and further north just had to many close outs.

My 55-59 group of six was at 845. Two groups – both with six and only first three advance. Wound up getting 5th place in my heat. Surfed kooky and awkwardly and without any flow or style and missed any maneuvers and cutbacks which sunk me. Ossie was doing the play by play on microphone and when I dropped in she let me have it from the booth – fortunately I kicked out and was not penalized – but it made for a funny – if publicly mortifying minute.

Gina 1st heat was at 10 a]m and she surfed really well- easily making me Kevin and Carolyn think she won the heat. She came in second but easily advanced to womens final at 345. Kevin me and gina then went for a boat dox surf which was small and mellow.

Michael arrived around 3pm and we waited for Gina’s final. Conditions had deteriorated considerably – high tide and cross off shore stiff wind. We watched from the edge of the shore as her fog horn went off – three people in heat – one person -antoinette also had an Ashley lloyd board.(other woman was SC semi pro) Staying in position was difficult because of the wind- G stayed inside and it was good strategic move – she managed to get four waves despite the heat time being lully  as far as actual set waves. Antoinette also did well. They gave out the trophys at the end of the day because of covid and G got 1st place. Later we realized the trophy depiction was slightly insensitive.

That night we had a giant MCF feast at capp with gina and michael
