Notes : MON 27TH Super early to Topanga cause Eric S. said it works at high tide. Indeed it was. With gina and eric had the place to ourselves mostly – very small and soft but totally fun. Couldn’t believe it was not more crowded. Forgot the trace but captured a “cocker” on the surfline rewind and filmed it off the computer. Notes : SUN 26 Gina and I head up to Ventura c street but got kinda skunked- onshore and high tide -but we went in for a few crumblers. That night we had had an Oscar party at the house they rented- Eric saks came BY WITH SMOKED SALMON – mikel cooking steaks in the yards while taking to his director in Tsingtao China film. I started a joke early on with everyone what if they just refused to say who the winner was?? Mikel said – or if it was none of the nominees but a write-in candidate that won. For the rest of the night we all joked when the winner was about to be announced- “The winner is … write-in candidate film ‘Free In Deed’ “ Then when the best picture SNAFU happened we all FREAKED OUT! We were so glad Barry won – the entire evening was surreal with gina /mikel texting friends they knew who were actually at the Oscars.

Notes : SAT 25 Pretty damn good. Clean-clear and windless. In front of taco bell. I surfed really well. Then we wound up driving down to LA! We got in Saturday night at around 630 just as Michael and gina were returning from the independent spirit awards- Free in Deed lost in all four categories but Mikel to re-connect with Barry J which was great.

Notes : it kinda looked better than it actually surfed-then again i couldn’t seem to connect with the swell – kept feeling i was out of position- had one very solid left that was marred by a floundering guy in the impact zone… i could have probably gone hogh on the face and went around him but i thought that was too risky- stayed straight and watched the glassy meat dissappear un ridden…
