Notes : last night it spread like wildfire that Newsom was going to announce on Thursday afternoon that all CA beaches were to be closed on Friday. Thus, thurs am it was drizzly and dreary and onshore and somewhat big and really jumbled up BUT crowded for the conditions. everyone gettin in a last surf including M and B. I got a few big wedge puzzle piece waves but got out – too big and to many clueless moving objects in the varied impact zones. Later that afternoon Newsom issued no such order – so all is as was before…

Notes : Cold, dreary foggy and drizzly. Chopped up mush at boat dox – plus an onshore. But 4 peeps in the water. I watched. Sure enough little crumblers would come through and hold up. I was game. Surfed really well. Took off at the peak then the wave almost go into a flat like open faced sections- then a cut back and another mini section – pretty sweet action…

Notes :Calm. Clear. Low tide. A clean little occasional wedge at old boat dox. Soft – but ridable and quite nice – beautiful in fact with the rising sun. However, as I told K by text later exiting I saw a strange site. Two surfers were far ahead of me on shore walking back to the lot. Suddenly 8 horses appeared and galloped to the two surfers. They were clearly SMC cops – and they had nets. but what was stranger as they came closer I saw they were actually APES!! And they could talk! They threw nets around the two surfers and hog tied them into submission then came after me. I ran away fast with my board (wasn’t gonna drop the Ashley lloyd “magic dove”) and three APE riders caught up to me and threw the net around me and the board. On my last wave I had hit my throat with the nose of the board so could barely get any words out – finally I struggled: “Damn Apes”. They were totally shocked and said to each other “Did you hear that long boarder can speak” I took the opportunity to extricate myself from the net and get in the car and back to fresco. Freaky – but all in all good sesh

Notes : 630 arrival in the Norcal lot. F was coming out and said it was good – already 3 people in the water including K – who I hadn’t seen in a while. It was clear and windless. low tide – crumbly soft jumbled up fish mosh. there were sections – but surfing poorly and couldn’t connect. had one nice left that stood up for a fair bit – but had to abort for someone paddling out. M and B then came in the lineup. I got out and as I re entered the lot imagined Pacifica snipers on the top of soul grind roof – armored police half tracks with a guy in a bullhorn saying – throw down your board and we will not shoot – then be netted in my wet suit and taken to surfer jail. it was fine – no patrol- de suited and out in a flash. the crackdown will be brutal this weekend – picnickers from sac will be ticketed- they have already closed all residential roads in advance of the weekend onslaught. will be interesting to see how it goes. will wait until dawn on Tuesday for the next venture forth. it does seem like from the press release they are implying enforcement is especially tight on weekends and during prime beach hours so we will see…

Notes : Well yesterday San Mateo County and Pacifica issued a press release saying they would now enforce violations of people coming to the beach who live more than 5 miles away. They determine that by asking questions and checking license plates. San Mateo County had the “5 mile rule” meaning if you are not 5 miles from the beach then you must turn around. Since I am 14 miles that means not me. Many residents apparently have been complaining because everyone is parking on Crespi Street and entering at the Crespi Linda Mar entrance. (Hence resulting in the line up on the North end of “CCC” aka Crespi Covid Cluster.) I have parked in the Norcal lot and entering and surfing on the South end – whatever the wave is like – just to avoid CCC. Most locals I speak with say the issues is weekenders who arrive at 9 or 10 am with van loads of family and friends and picnic baskets. But now the hammer has come down. Will they enforce on folks that arrive at dawn and leave by 830???? this AM I Arrived at the Norcal lot at 615 am – it was empty. The south end at boat dox was kind of rubbish but surf able but  no one was in the line up – not even F. it was not something I was gonna do- surf with no one win the water. so I walked on the beach. went back to the lot and 4 cars had arrived – all surfers. well I thought – now at least some people would be in the water on the south end – but decided to give it a pass. I left – no sign of any cops anywhere. talking later with folk many said they think its likely to be a 9 to 5 enforcement issue – we shall see. I feel county officials are weighing total beach closure – which – in the end – will really piss off the Linda Mar locals…
