Stats/Video :when I look at cam I see too many kooks in the water. they must be driving and parking in the public Norcal/traveller lot and then walking the side path onto Linda that lets out at boat dox. when are they gonna shut that lot down and/or enforce?

Notes : Well I knew it was over for surfing because the electronic sign on the split tp hgwy 1 said – don’t drive – stay home. Sure enough all barriers were up in front of the A lot and the B lot. I drove around to the Norcal shopping lot that has the side entrance to LM at boatdox. F and ? were getting out of the water- they seemed somewhat undeterred by the whole thing. A sign said you should exercise in your immediate area. That was it for me. No more surfing until we pass the apex – need to be off the road. Drove back in a sun shower…

Overcast. A lot about 25% full. B lot had 4 cars in it. I parked far away from anyone else. About 40 surfers in the water from the North end to boat dox – or roughly one mile. 25 of them were concentrated In a pod just north of the A lot pumphouse – near volleyballs/shipwrecks. Definitely was not going there. About 10 people were just north of Taco Bell – off peak as far as I could tell. Two folk in front of taco bell where – as I surmised- the real peak was- a choppy little open-faced right hander that meandered and stayed open for a nice little stretch. I scored again and again and again. Surprising waves that looked like nothing that just stayed open – allowing you a few nice ample top to bottom of face stretches and a little bit of racing down the line trim. 45 minutes and that was it. A black sheriffs pick-up truck in the B lot. An NBC news truck in the A lot. Would this be the last day? Closing down the parking lots – but then would they close down the beach as well? (the beach was relatively empty – all things considered. G walking his dog – as always- a few other regulars. Oddly – in the water I didn’t see any of the regulars near me – just kids and kooks. )Thought of way to reduce SIP violations and wrote letter to Pacifica city manager when I got home:
Dear Pacifica City Manager,
I am a long-time surfer at Linda Mar beach and would like to suggest an alternative to closing the parking lots at Linda Mar because people re not following social distancing protocol.
- In the A and B lot close off every other parking spot. This will prevent the lots from becoming full and limit the number of people on the beach.
- Signage indicating to practice social distancing (no picnics or parties) and 1-hour access limited to exercise, hike or surf.
Thank you
Pat Ryan
Hi Pat,
Thank you for your recommendations. They will be passed along for discussions regarding any potential beach closures. The City is keenly aware of the situation and are working hard for a solution that puts the safety and health of our residents first and foremost.
Thank you and stay safe,
Shelby Wright

Notes : There was a real nice peak north of the A lot pump house – wide breaking – nice open faces – not that big. But I thought way too many people – no social distance. Was not going there. Down South was less populace and Lully and smaller – however still really nice. You had to seriously dig to get into it – but then it stayed open. My last wave was a “hood ornament ” for about 5 full seconds. A very nice sesh – just wondering how long the beaches will remain open amid the plague…
